Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers for homeowners planning construction projects in Paradise, Chico, and throughout Butte County.

Estimates & Getting Started

We offer free estimates for many standard residential projects. For more detailed estimate requests, property evaluations, consulting, or requests that require additional time and planning, a $250 estimate fee may apply. If you move forward with the project, that fee is credited toward the job.

Helpful information includes project goals, photos of the area, rough measurements, inspiration images, and your desired timeline. This helps us better understand the scope and provide a more accurate estimate.

Costs vary depending on materials and scope. Typical ranges in the Chico and Paradise area are:

Bathroom remodel: $12,000 – $35,000
Kitchen remodel: $25,000 – $80,000+
Whole home remodel: $75 – $200 per sq ft

Every project is different, so a site visit is usually required for an accurate estimate.

Licensing & Contractor Questions

Yes. Silverado Construction is licensed under CSLB #827675 and carries the appropriate insurance required for residential construction projects.

You can verify contractor licenses through the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) website. This allows homeowners to confirm license status, classifications, and insurance information.

A General Building Contractor (B license) can manage projects involving structural work and multiple trades such as framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, and finish work.

Permits & Regulations

Yes. When a project requires permits, we help guide the process and coordinate with Butte County Building Services to obtain approvals and schedule inspections.

Most structural work requires permits including framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing replacement, additions, and layout changes. Cosmetic work such as paint or flooring typically does not require permits.

Permit timelines vary depending on the complexity of the project. Smaller remodels may take 2–4 weeks, while larger structural projects or additions may take 4–8 weeks or longer.

In most cases the contractor helps coordinate permits and inspections as part of the project. This ensures the work complies with building codes and local regulations.

Remodel Planning & Timeline

Project timelines depend on size, complexity, permitting, and material availability.

Bathroom remodel: 2–4 weeks
Kitchen remodel: 4–8 weeks
Whole home remodel: 2–6 months

Often yes, but it depends on the scope of work. Kitchen remodels, major plumbing upgrades, or structural changes may make parts of the home temporarily unusable.

Projects that commonly add value include kitchen remodels, bathroom upgrades, energy efficient improvements, and updated flooring and lighting.

Paradise Rebuild & Fire Safety

Yes. Paradise now follows updated Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) building codes designed to reduce wildfire risk. These requirements include fire-resistant roofing, ember-resistant vents, ignition-resistant siding, and defensible space guidelines.

In many cases homeowners can rebuild larger homes as long as the new design complies with zoning, setbacks, and updated building codes.

Defensible space rules require clearing flammable vegetation around structures. Typically this includes maintaining cleared space within 30 feet of structures and reducing vegetation density within 100 feet.
